VANCITY EXPO ERNIE CAPSULE

VANCITY EXPO ERNIE CAPSULE

After 30 years, what's left standing from Expo 86? Well.. The Expo Centre (Science World), the Expo line (Skytrain), BC Place and a few other forgotten landmarks. Yo.. lets not forget about McDonald's very own, McBarge. Who didn't want to wolf down a Filet-O-Fish while floating around on a McDonald's boat? Sad to say it, the McBarge has been abandoned since '86 and is nothing more than a seagull sanctuary. Surprisingly it's still buoyant, but probably left to sink somewhere in the Burrard Inlet. What was precious and no longer available were the collectible Expo 86 Swatch watches, classic sun visors and pins. For real, Expo 86 was thee greatest world fair to attend and was really an exciting time for Vancity. Especially, when Princess Diana and Prince Charles, marked the grand opening and the new beginnings of a freshly branded city. Above all royalty, some of us cool kids were even lucky enough to witness legends of our own. Expo 86 hosted the NSA Pro Vert/Freestyle Skate competition that brought the greats like Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, and Kevin Harris just to name a few. They were the main attraction and skateboarding was what we lived for. It was RAD!

In commemoration of the 30 Year Anniversary of Expo 86, we put our flip on the iconic Expo Ernie. We are releasing a limited edition ringer tee and dad hat for those who want to re-live this piece of Vancouver history. Available Saturday, June 4th online at VancityOriginal.com and in store at Dipt.
